I'm going to leave a serious comment on a funny post, but the issue is really serious to me.

I find this controversy about the so-called "Ground Zero Mosque" very troubling.

To me, freedom of speech, expression, assembly and religion is not just about you and I being free to express ourselves and our faith in an organized way. The definition of "freedom" is being willing to protect and defend your enemy's ability to speak, assemble and worship, even if it offends your own beliefs and principles.

I understand that there are limits to this, of course, but I'm speaking only about Islam here. I think that very few intelligent people think (or should think) that Islam is, in and of itself, a terrorist/hate sect. It is so sad that the actions of a few radicals are largely defining many people's views of an otherwise peaceful faith.

Many of us are not Muslim and do not believe in many precepts of Islam but unless we can support and even encourage the free expression of religious views that we do not agree with, we cannot say that we truly support North America's view of freedom. And if that's the case, we should just bring the troops back now. There's no use in fighting for freedoms overseas that we aren't willing to protect at home.
